Remote Control for the Royal Navy
Like many shipyards, the Royal Navy used a Tyro Cetus remote to operate the lifting devices called as rotating tower cranes used for lifting the boats. This rotating tower crane helps people to lift the ship within a few minutes on the land for maintenance and repair.
This radio-controlled crane has four tackles of 25 tons that can be operated independently which makes the crane also suitable for loading or unloading of heavy equipment.
The decisive factor in the award of this contract was the EMC-e4 certificate, safety class cat. 3 (954-1/ISO EN 13849-1), a proper after sales and of course, a good price/quality ratio.
The Navy also chose to have a keyboard on the receiver. In case of losing the transmitter (falling in water), there is no panic as the boat lift can still be operated via the keypad on the receiver, which is exactly the same as that of the transmitter.
The rock-solid construction of the crane combined with the high quality of control technology, make this rotating tower crane an extremely reliable machine for lifting heavy equipments.
Transmission Unit Remote control via footpedal
This hydraulic grasp arm had its own power pack (diesel), therefore, it could be used universally. It could be connected on any crane and could also be quickly disconnected for using it on an another machine.
The builder of these machines needed a wireless solution for controlling the gripper. The main point here was that the crane operator needed to keep his hands free in order to operate the crane (movements).
By discussing with the client, Tyro Remotes came to an idea of making a remote control that can be operated by foot. Tyro Sedna transmitter was attached to the foot pedal by a cable. These grabs are widely used in various port areas. Hence, an uninterrupted operation with multiple grippers next to each other was an unquestionable requirement.
The photo above shows the first test in which four grabs worked side by side without any problems. Meanwhile, the entire test procedure completed successfully and the remote control combined with the foot pedal was made as a standard remote control.
